Yangjiang Fm
Type Locality and Naming
It was named by the No. I Regional Survey Party of Yunnan Province in 1973. The naming locality is situated by the Yangbi River 34 km south of the Yangbijiang County town, Yunnan Province, with the Bazhulu-Huakaizuo-Yangbi River section serving as its reference section.
Synonym: (漾江组)
Lithology and Thickness
The formation is composed essentially of purple mudstones and dark-purple siltstones, intercalated with yellow and brown-yellow sandstones and yellow-green calcareous mudstones, locally with yellow marl lenses, with a thickness of 580 m. There are few differences in its lithology among the various regions with greater variations in its thickness, being of only 65 m in minimum, and of 804 m in maximum.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
It underlies conformably the Maichujing Fm
Upper contact
It is in a conformable contact with the overlying Huakaizuo Fm
Regional extent
The formation is distributed to the west of the Diaocang Mts and Ailao Mts, and to the east of the Nushan Mts and Wuliang Mts, and in the area extending from the Weixi region on the north to the Jiangcheng region on the south.

Fossils
It yields Ostracod fossils as represented by the Gomphocythere? exornata and G. aff. reticulata. In the Huilong area of Mojiang County the formation yields also bivalve fossils as represented by Cuneopsis cf. johannisboehmi and C. sichuanensis.
